The binding has been hand stitched and a Callicvol Quilts label added - the quilt is now completed !

The border quilting having been completed, the edges are trimmed. A continuous double-fold binding is sewn to the front of the quilt ready for turning to the back to be hand stitched.

The wide border is free-motion quilted - leaf shapes are stitched in the centre of the 8 inch border.

Quilting is well underway. All the stems and leaves in the five panels are outlined. There is quilting-in-the-ditch either side of each of the sashing strips and a cable design in four panels.

Now to the layering - the backing , wadding and quilt top are layered together and secured with curved quilting pins in preparation for quilting.

All panels and sashings having now been joined , the borders are added.

The leaf panels, the cable panels and the sashing strips are now joined to form the centre of the quilt top.

Four strips of 5ins have been cut. The cable design is marked on the full length of each prior to assembling the quilt top.

The stem and leaves are now appliqued onto the background fabric , using a blanket stitch in toning thread.

The bias stem and leaves are presssed onto the background fabric ready for stitching into place - 5 panels of 8 inch width.

Leaves have been drawn on fusible web. This is then ironed onto the wrong side of the fabric. Now I have the leaves to cut out - all 330 of them !

The bias strips are joined together to the required length. This is then fed through the bias tape maker - both edges are pressed in a quarter inch, the resulting tape being a half inch.

Bias strips of 1inch are cut - sufficient to make curving stems from top to bottom of the quilt - for 5 panels.

There are only three fabrics in this quilt - two lovely turquoise/blue batiks and plain white. These have all been washed and ironed ready to begin.
