Quilt in the Making
Leaf Trails
Completed

The binding has been hand stitched and a Callicvol Quilts label added - the quilt is now completed !

Date: 18 November 2013

The border quilting having been completed, the edges are trimmed. A continuous double-fold binding is sewn to the front of the quilt ready for turning to the back to be hand stitched.

Date: 16 November 2013

The wide border is free-motion quilted  - leaf shapes are stitched in the centre of the 8 inch border.

Date: 15 November 2013

Quilting is well underway. All the stems and leaves in the five panels are outlined. There is quilting-in-the-ditch either side of each of the sashing strips and a cable design in four panels.

Date: 11 November 2013

Now to the layering - the backing , wadding and quilt top are layered together and secured with curved quilting pins in preparation  for quilting.

Date: 06 November 2013

All panels and sashings having now been joined , the borders are added.

Date: 04 November 2013

The leaf panels, the cable panels and the sashing strips are now joined to form the centre of the quilt top.

Date: 02 November 2013

Four strips of 5ins have been cut. The cable design is marked on the full length of each prior to assembling the quilt top.

Date: 31 October 2013

The stem and leaves are now appliqued onto the background fabric , using a blanket stitch in toning thread.

Date: 23 October 2013

The bias stem and leaves are presssed onto the background fabric ready for stitching into place - 5 panels of 8 inch width.

Date: 16 October 2013

Leaves have been drawn on fusible web. This is then ironed onto the wrong side of the fabric. Now I have the leaves to cut out - all 330 of them !

Date: 14 October 2013

The bias strips are joined together to the required length. This is then fed through the bias tape maker - both edges are pressed in  a quarter inch, the resulting tape being  a half inch.

Date: 11 October 2013

Bias strips of 1inch are cut - sufficient to make curving stems from top to bottom of the quilt  -  for 5 panels.

Date: 11 October 2013

There are only three fabrics in this quilt - two lovely turquoise/blue batiks and plain white. These have all been washed and ironed ready to begin.
