Tartan Showcase

This colourful quilt , showcasing clan tartans is now completed. After quilting , the finished size is 102½ x 89 in / 260.5 x226 cm.

Quilting is completed. A continuous double-fold binding is sewn to the front of the quilt ready for turning to the back and hand-stitched.

Diagonal quilting through sashing squares and tartan squares with in-the-ditch quilting either side of the narrow white border.  The navy border has two rows of parallel quilting.

The horizontal sashing rows have been joined  to the tartan rows. A narrow white border cut1½in / 4cm has been added followed by  the outer border cut 5in / 13cm to complete the quilt top.

The backing , wadding and quilt top have been layered in preparation for quilting.

Navy sashing squares 4 x 4 in /10 x 10cm are joined to white shashing strips to make the horizontal sashing.

Horizontal rows are completed. Sashing squares are now to be cut.

White sashing strips 4in/10cm are sewn between tartan squares forming horizontal rows.

Squares of 10¾ins have been cut and laid out to get an overall balance of colour across the quilt.

A selection of tartans in 100% cotton  and polyester/cotton have been chosen. As these fabrics have been washed previously, the cutting out can commence !
